Guide to buying trace bowls and kitchen utensils

It was written with the person living alone in a studio or official in mind, but there will be content that can be referred to in a multi-family.

Bowl

As for the bowl, the IKEA Oftast series bowl ( 1,000 won ) is the most cost-effective. In Daiso, the same size porcelain bowl costs 3,000 won, and the commercial melamine bowl, which is known as the synonym for cost-performance bowls, is 2,000 won for the same size, which is much cheaper. That doesn't mean it's of poor quality. Oftast is an OEM-produced product by Arc International. It is virtually the same product as the expensive Luminac Diwali line. Even when comparing the real objects, there was no difference in texture, transparency, and finish between the Luminak bowl and the Oftast bowl.

The material is white tempered glass and it is very strong. In the experiment of dropping from a height of 1 meter onto a hard floor, the first round was undamaged (but internally, the shock would have accumulated), and the second round broke.

It is resistant to thermal shock, so it won't break even with hot ramen soup. It can also be used in a microwave oven. Originally, most glass and porcelain vessels can be used in a microwave oven.

It is more convenient to purchase and use a large number of bowls by size and type rather than trying to operate them in a minimalist manner by purchasing only one or two bowls. Oftast is lightweight and easily stacks up and down, so it doesn't take up much space even if it has a large number.

Spoon

The material of the spoon is mostly 304 or 430. The difference between the two is that ① 430 is not a rust-prone material, but 304 does not rust more, ② the color of stainless steel is that 430 has a slightly cold blue color, whereas 304 has a slightly warm gold color due to the nickel component. There is no difference in terms of human toxicity. If you think about it, 304 may be said to be more harmful because the heavy metal contains nickel, so it comes out as food ( Kamerud et al., 2013 ), but in reality, it is correct to see that there is no difference.

Personally, since dishwashers tend to induce rust, dishwasher users should purchase 304 materials as much as possible, and hand dishes do not cause rust, so those who do hand dishes can choose anything, whether it is 304 or 430.

The recommended product is absurd, but the WMF Manaos / Miami 20-piece flatware set. The list price is $160, but it is regularly discounted at $25 and is still on sale for $25 as of this posting. It can be purchased for about $45 when the shipping cost in the US and the direct purchase agency are combined. As a product with an expensive price, the design and finish are of the highest quality. The knife included in the set can be used for a variety of purposes, such as applying butter, grilling pork belly and cutting it from a plate, slicing spam or tofu, and opening a gap between the packing and plastic to remove the rubber packing for washing dishes in an airtight container. The material is probably 304 except for the knife.

Chopsticks are not included in this set, so you must purchase them separately. I think vacuum chopsticks' have a good cost performance among stainless steel chopsticks. It is cheaper than ordinary flat chopsticks. It contains fewer raw materials because it is hollow and has a good grip because it is round. Vacuum chopsticks can be purchased from IKEA for 430 materials for 4 sets for 3,000 won, and E-Mart for 4 sets of 304 materials for 4,000 won.

Wooden chopsticks are also surprisingly useful. The durability is indeed lower than that of stainless steel because it is wood, but when you recall how long you use tempura chopsticks' made of wood in your home, the durability is not as weak as you might think. It is possible to use it neatly for a long time if you do not soak it in water for a long time and take care such as feeding mineral oil from time to time. The advantage of the tree is that it is soft, so it doesn't get any greasy inside the pot.

If you boil the ramen in a stainless pot and eat it with stainless chopsticks, the stainless steel rubs against each other, so you inevitably get a bit of a taste. There is also an advantage in that the noodles do not slide well because it has better friction than stainless steel. Among the wooden chopsticks, Ikea Splitter, which costs 2,000 won for 8 sets, is the most acceptable. It is the same thickness as stainless vacuum chopsticks, so it is familiar and comfortable to the hand.

'Cutipole', which is popular these days, or the cutlery of the design that copied it, feels that it is not practical. The handle is uselessly long and the center of gravity is oriented to the rear, so if you place it over the plate, it will fall to the floor.

Airtight container

An airtight container does not have the effect of increasing the time limit for the food to been perishable, but it has the effect of increasing the time limit for the food to be saved. When stored in the freezer, it prevents the evaporation of moisture from the food, and when stored in the refrigerator, it prevents other odors from bloating.

Currently, the most cost-effective airtight container is the IKEA 365+ series. The price itself is not only much cheaper than Lock & Lock and Glass Lock, but also clean design, heat-resistant glass material (same as Lock & Lock), no protrusions protruding from the entrance of the glass body, so it does not go out (same as Lock & Lock). It is superior to Lock&Lock and GlassLock in terms of functionality, such as being stable (same as the Lock&Lock modular product line) and easily separated when you want to separate the lid edge silicone for cleaning. In addition, the body and lid are sold separately, and various types of lids can be combined in one body due to good lid compatibility, and on the contrary, it is possible to combine bodies of various materials and sizes on one lid. There is also the advantage of doing it.

The material is good because plastic is less cold for the freezer, and glass with low permeability such as moisture and odor seems to be good for the refrigerator and room temperature. At first, it would be okay to purchase 2 plastics and 3 glasses, and then purchase additionally after seeing the situation.

The silicone lid included in the series is suitable for use as a cover when turning in a microwave oven. It is high-level compatibility with sealed lids with steam holes that are pouring into the market like these days. The steam hole has the disadvantage of weak durability and inconvenient cleaning due to its (relatively) complex structure, but the IKEA silicone lid is an integral type, providing high durability and ease of cleaning. The steam emission performance is the same.

tongs

The most commonly used tongs in Korea are crocodile tongs', but these are toothed at the front end of the tongs, so the iron plate is bent inward, so the tip of the tongs gets thicker and does not fit well under the meat.

Alligator tongs

Because of this, I recommend the petal clippers. There are differences in appearance for each product, but generally, the tip is thin and it is easy to use for various purposes. The 30cm length is the most acceptable.

If you can afford it, it's a good idea to have a plastic tong for the coating pan as well. The coating material is largely divided into Teflon coating and ceramic coating. Of these, it is not necessary to use plastic tongs for ceramic coating, but using plastic for Teflon coating can help to extend the life a little.

For plastic tongs, IKEA 365+ Hjälte ( 6,000 won ) seems to be okay. The performance is not very satisfactory, but I use it because there is no alternative. The complaints are that the tip of the tongs is thick because it turns, making it difficult to slip it under the food, and the friction is weak and the food often slides. IKEA's other tongs are too stiff, which puts a lot of power into the hand and has a shorter length.

Cooking spatula

A cooking spatula should be equipped with one piece of wood and one piece of silicon, and use it as needed. It is helpful to have one plastic and one stainless steel as an option. As many as four spatulas, it seems to be head-on advice against minimalism, which is popular these days, but it's originally a kitchen work. The more tools you have for each type, the easier your work will be.

Since wood is resistant to high temperatures and has hard properties, it is good for hard scraping of food stuck to the bottom and sides of the pan. Rather than lacquer or polyurethane coating, it is recommended to purchase raw wood and use it while feeding mineral oil. As for the product, the version of IKEA Rört with the front part cut to 1 character ( 2,000 won ) and Daiso Beechwood flippers (2,000 won) are acceptable. Both products have a single-shaped part and a curved part on the front part of the spatula, so the bottom of the fan can be scratched well, and at the same time, it is possible to cope with the curved part of the side of the fan.

A spatula with a single-shaped part and a curved part is good for a scraping spatula.

The advantage of plastic (nylon) spatula is that it is more resistant to water than wood. Soaking the spatula in water and leaving it for a long time will not cause any problems. The disadvantages of nylon are:

① It is less susceptible to high temperatures than wood and silicon. After scraping the bottom of the frying pan, you can see that the tip is slightly melted.

② The material is not as thick as wood, so the sense of stability is poor and there is a feeling of a little lumpy.

③ Because it is porous, food can soak in as well as wood. That's why high-quality nylon spatulas are always available in black. The nylon spatula has a surprisingly large-quality variation for each brand, but IKEA products have a good cost-performance ratio. Despite its low price, the quality is equal to that of high-end products such as Japanese Sun craft.

Silicone is ideal for making scrambled eggs because it is soft and can scratch the bottom of the pan widely at once. To make scrambled eggs delicious, you need to quickly scrape off the eggs that become thin and hardened instantly on the floor during cooking. The product is easy to use with E-Mart JAJU Master Silicone Stir-Fry Spatula ( 14,000 won ).

The stainless spatula is thin and suitable for making broth, so it is used for basting. It is difficult to completely replace a wooden or plastic spatula with this since scratching the stainless pan with this force will give it a blast. I use the spoon included in the IKEA 365+ 4 serving set ( 20,000 won ). The material is 430.

Scrubbers

As for the scrubber, the 3M mesh scrubber dries quickly, making it easy to manage hygiene. During disposable use, Daiso sells 40 sheets for 2,000 won (item number 1002084), which has a good cost performance.

Green loofah contains abrasive powder, so it removes sticky dirt well, but there is a problem with removing the dirt and the material of the bowl. Glossy stainless steel becomes matte once rubbed with this, and matte stainless steel loses its original texture and has a texture like a car bonnet. It is also the main culprit in making stainless steel cooking utensils taste like iron and smell of iron. (With normal stainless steel, after wiping off the abrasive and passivating citric acid, there is no iron taste or smell of iron, regardless of steel type.)

Even if it is a new one purchased today, the coating pan dedicates its remaining life and loses its coating power as soon as you wash dishes with a green loofah. If the Daiso frying pan was purchased and started sticking in less than a week, then before blaming the quality of Daiso's products, it is necessary to look back on whether or not you are using green scrubbers.

Porcelain bowls lose their luster when the green scrubber touches them. Originally, porcelain bowls have a smooth glaze coating on the outside, so even if you often put coffee, tea, and curry, it is normal to have no water at all. It is helpful to secure the bowl by not putting the green scrubber into the kitchen at all. Although the house is like a space of my own, family and friends may come in when I live, and they can wash the dishes. I can throw it away.

When removing foods such as steamed eggs that are strongly pressed on the pot, use a chemical method instead of a green loofah. For steamed eggs, add baking soda, pour hot water boiled in an electric kettle, leave for several hours, and wash the dishes, and they will come off gently. For something that sticks more strongly, use sodium carbonate or sodium percarbonate instead of baking soda.

cup

Cups are something you like a lot, so it doesn't make sense to recommend them, but I write down a few items that you think have good cost performance.

Samadoyo CP-02 150mL Heat Resistant Glass Teacup Set ( 2 pieces 4,500 won ): One cup of mixed coffee fits perfectly, so it is good to eat mixed coffee.

Location Chaurim Filter Glass ( 6,000 won ): You can efficiently serve up to 200mL of leaf tea at a time. The advantage is that the hands are not hotter than the open arms and that it is easier to clean than a teapot. It is made of heat-resistant glass.

Sie-Max Prom Mug ( 2 pieces of KRW 7,000 ): It is a heat-resistant glass mug with a good design and a good size.

I thought that the soju glass was good because IKEA Pokal ( six 2,000 won ) is the same size as the Korean soju glass but also contains some design elements. The beer mug is a French-made IKEA Lodrät ( 1,500 won ) and fits a can of 355mL beer.

Other kitchen utensils

Cookbook: A recipe book is a kind of book that is relatively underutilized, but that doesn't mean you can't miss it at all, and you are forced to buy one or two. Among the things I saw recently, I felt that the first of Baek Jong-won's cookbooks, namely “52 Baek Jong-won's Recommended Home Food Menu”, and Yeo Kyung-are and Yeo Gyeong-ok, and “Chinese dishes that Koreans like” were okay.

Kitchen Scissors: As in the photo below, if there is a part that is deeply dug to cut the chicken bone, it is uncomfortable to use it. Doruko scissors are the best.

Potato knives: The IKEA 365+ Värdefull potato knives ( 6,000 won ) is a good value for money. However, in common with IKEA potato knives, the front part of the support (the part where the potato sprouts are dug out) protrudes a lot from the side of the blade, so there is no problem when cutting small vegetables such as carrots and potatoes, there is a downside to flying.

Ladle: The ladle included in the IKEA 365+ 4 serving set ( 20,000 won ) is a very suitable size for serving soups for 1-2 people, such as ramen.

Garlic mincing: Raw garlic has a shorter shelf life than minced garlic. So, in an environment where it is difficult to consume ingredients quickly, it is better to buy and eat chopped garlic than to store raw garlic and then chop it. Nevertheless, if you are going to buy a garlic mincer, we recommend that you do not purchase the garlic press type, which is common, as it is inconvenient to use even high-end products. Garlic chopper is Royal VKB Garlic Crusher is a worn tap both performance and design, cleaning convenience. It looks similar to Joseph Joseph Garlic Rocker, but the principle of operation is completely different and should not be confused.

Colander: Used to boil noodles, spaghetti, throw away water, and wash vegetables. If you use a Luminal glass steamer, you can use it as a tray.

Wine opener: Depending on the mechanism, there are several types, and the two-stage sommelier knife' method is the most convenient. The price is about 1,000 won.

Dishcloth: Rather than using it to clean dirty things, it is used for a variety of purposes, such as holding a potholder, a handle of a hot pot, or removing a hot dish from a microwave. It is easier to manage hygiene by using a kitchen towel instead of a dishcloth for cleaning dirty things.

Rubber gloves: Washing dishes with bare hands hurts the skin, so rubber gloves are essential. The yellow and off-white food grade' rubber gloves are pretty in color. Since rubber gloves are made of natural latex, they dissolve in oil, so after touching the oil with rubber gloves, you need to wipe them with detergent to prevent holes in the fingertips and use them for a long time.

Vinyl gloves: As plastic gloves have a large quality deviation by brand, it is difficult to find the lowest price. If you buy the lowest price, you can easily puncture the vinyl joints on your fingertips and get something inside. One of the good products is Clean Lap Clean Gloves.

Zipper bag: Because the vinyl material penetrates the air little by little, the sealing power is less than that of an airtight container. Ikea Isnad has the best value for money. The size is 2.5L and 1.5L, and 3,500 won seems to be the most acceptable.

Plastic wrap: If you put plastic wrap on the bowl, you can make a simple airtight container. Note that the material itself penetrates the air little by little, so the sealing power is lower than that of a real airtight container. It is also good for wrapping and storing unreserved ingredients like pork belly.

Aluminum Cooking Foil: Used for packaging when selling RAM and SSD for secondhand. Other than that, it is difficult to find a use. It is said that there is no effect of holding a knife or scissors blade.

Paper foil: A paper coated with a non-stick coating similar to a ceramic-coated frying pan. It is also difficult to find a use. It can be used as a coating pan by spreading it on a stainless pan or a highlight electric stove, but if that happens, I wonder why I should just spread the paper foil on the stainless pan.

Office tongs: Used for sealing plastic packaging of leftover food ingredients. If food stored in the freezer is not sealed, moisture will fly away and become tasteless, and food stored in the refrigerator will become tasteless due to the smell of the surroundings.

Bottlebrush: Used to wash the inside of a cup with a narrow neck and deep, for example, a beer mug. IKEA Medelvåg ( 1,000 won ) has a good value for money.

Dish drying rack: You should buy something easy to maintain. If you're going to use it for a long time, the two-tiered dish drying rack made of 304 stainless steel seems to be the best for now. Originally, the ablaze is one-tier, but for one-room residents who need to use the cramped kitchen space more efficiently, they have no choice but to use the second-tier.

Electric pot: Induction (IH) users don't need an electric pot because it boils quickly even if they just boil water in a pot, but for highlight users, an electric pot is essential. Electric pots are properly leveled in performance, so they do their part to buy which ones, while no product can be particularly picked up and recommended. For example, Bermuda The Pod has the disadvantage that it is difficult or cumbersome to clean the inside of the spout, while the Xiaomi Mi Port has the disadvantage of having a different Hz and requiring an adapter.

Microwave: Buy anything durable. Samsung microwave ovens seem to tend to be less durable.

Airfryer: In my experience, using a low-cost Airfryer of around 60,000 won is not recommended. ① Washing the dishes is more cumbersome than a frying pan, ② cooking time takes a long time, which is 20 minutes and 30 minutes, which stimulates urgent temper. The coating peels off ( it peels off faster than the Daiso coating pan coating). Frozen dumplings and pork cutlets were significantly inferior to frying pans even if they were sprinkled with oil. Even the commonly mentioned'Sase' product personally didn't feel so delicious.

Shelves: When buying kitchen utensils, there are times when you can't afford storage with the narrow cupboards that are standard in a studio. In that case, you can secure a lot of storage space by purchasing a shelf or bookshelf. The Lerberg shelf sold at IKEA is affordable and practical at 18,000 won. When you move, you can easily disassemble it and take it with you. If there is space, it is good to buy two or so and use it generously.
